The two-Midsummer Classic per season format was eliminated in 1963 to restore the game's popularity, but the attendance during this game was more than 25,000 under capacity.

Bobby Richardson, during this particular game, became the first All-Star to ever ground into a double play twice during the same Midsummer Classic.
