Kansas City Royals Pitcher of the Year

The Kansas City Royals Pitcher of the Year has been awarded annually since 1971 and are determined through a vote by members of the Kansas City Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

"Last year (2004) was definitely a struggle. This year I just wanted to come in, pitch and take it day by day. It worked out fairly well. I felt I could pitch at this level. Mike MacDougal is the first reliever to win the Kansas City Royals Pitcher of the Year since 1998 & reliever Joakim Soria won in 2008, two of only three relief pitchers to win in Royals history — Quiz won it four times during his career.

Why are there no position players listed in above? Because the Kansas City Royals have a Kansas City Player of the Year honor which has also been awarded since 1971 and given by the Kansas City Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Did you know that Mike MacDougal won in 2005, but credited his comeback to pitching coach Guy Hansen saying, "It always seemed like he was there in my corner. He was a good guy who I felt really good around. He gave subtle advice that kept me on track, but mostly it was having a guy who believed in me."? The team, however, did not feel the same way and replaced Hansen with Bob McClure.
