Willie Mac Award

The Willie Mac Award is named in honor of Giants Hall of Fame slugger Willie McCovey. The Willie Mac Award is bestowed upon the San Francisco Giants player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership consistently shown by the San Francisco legend throughout his career.

Giants shortstop Omar Vizquel voted for Mike Matheny in 2005 and said on MLB.com, "We're all in this together, and I just love the guys that go out there every day and try to give your best." Matheny voted for Vizquel in 2005 and said, "Watching him go out there was motivating for me. To be on the same field as him was an honor for me."
