Talkin' Baseball, The California Team

In 1981 Terry Cashman recorded what is more commonly referred to as Talkin' Baseball, which was originally called Willie, Mickey And The Duke. It became — and still is — a very popular pop song that pays tribute to players from the fifties and a variety of variations were released during the following seasons. What follows below is a follow-up to that classic tune which specifically pays tribute to the Angels franchise.

"Daddy Wags could hit the pill, Take a Chance up on the hill, And junior circuit baseball was finally here" - Terry Cashman in Talkin' Baseball (The California Team)

The Angels came in '61
To play in California's sun
Bill Rigney was the Manager that year
Daddy Wags could hit the pill
Take a Chance up on the hill
And junior circuit baseball was finally here

Talkin' Baseball, Bilko Bo Belinsky
Angel Baseball, Pearson and Osinsky
Rick Reichardt and Fregosi on the scene
Jim Spencer, "The Singer Throwing Machine"
Talkin' Baseball, the California team

The Halos' wings were up and down
But Johnson won The Batting Crown
The locals were all taken by The Express
There was never a lack of cash in the Angel saddlebags
And in '79 Gene Autry rode his Champion of the West

Talkin' Baseball, Mick "The Quick" and Lyman
Angel Baseball, Vada, Chalk and Ryan
McMullen, Figueroa and Fairley
Don Baylor, he was an MVP
Talkin' Baseball, The California team

When you’re Talkin' Angel baseball,
Lee Thomas and Bob Knoop
Clyde Wright won twenty games
Messersmith he did the same
Ryan's four no-hitters in three years
The batters were in tears

Scioscia has ambition
And with the Angels' ammunition
They're aiming for the Series in the Fall
We’ve got Kennedy and Scott
And “The Rally Monkey’s” hot
Tim Salmon's fine in Anaheim
So let's play ball

Talkin' Baseball, Anderson and Gil
Angel Baseball, Jarrod Washburn on the hill
Darin, Glaus and Eckstein on the scene
Percivil and Ortiz have the steam
Talkin' Baseball, The California team
