Triples Records

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a record book full of baseball milestones for triples — including career triples records, single season triples records and game related triples records.

"Speed is a great asset; but it's greater when it's combined with quickness - and there's a big difference." - Hall of Famer / American League Career Leader for Triples Ty Cobb in The Tumult and the Shouting: My Life in Sport (Grantland Rice, Rigby Publishing, 1977, Page 114)

On September 22, 1903 Mike Donlin of Cincinnati became the first and only National League player to hit four triples during a double header. In the American Association Billy Hamilton also had four (setting the first record that Donlin tied) during a double header on June 28, 1889, but not one American League player has ever duplicated this unique three-bag feat.

In 1905 Dave Brain of the St. Louis Cardinals became the first and only player to hit three triples in one game two different times during the same season.

Chief Wilson of the Pittsburgh Pirates is the only player in Major League history to hit at least one triple in five consecutive games and the dates were June 17th (one triple), 18th (one triple), 19th (one triple), 20th (one triple in game 1), and 20th (two triples in game 2) 1912.
