Winning Pitcher: Colon.

Attendance: 51,267.
Length of Game: 3:38.

During the first inning, the American League had the bases loaded versus Greg Maddux with Alex Rodriguez at the plate. Maddux struck out Rodriguez swinging to end the threat and manager Jim Leyland told Maddux, "Hell of a pitch, baby. That's why you're the best."

Why did David Wells chosen as the starting pitcher? Because earlier during the year (May 17, 1998) he threw the eighth perfect game in American League history.

Roberto Alomar, who won the All-Star Most Valuable Player Award, told reporters after he won the award, "I think Paul O'Neill kept us in the game and Omar Vizquel made a great (unassisted double) play for us."
