1965 All-Star Game Box Score

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the box score to the 1965 Midsummer Classic which was played on July 13, 1965 at Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

"What I remember happening is that (Johnny) Roseboro, when returning the pitches back to Sandy Koufax, would throw the ball right past (Juan) Marichal's ear. Juan turned around and asked Roseboro to stop doing that. Roseboro stood and took off his mask, and Marichal thought he was going to hit him with the mask, so he hit him with the bat, but he tapped him. If he'd have hit him, he would have knocked him cold." - Larry Jansen

The Midsummer Classic started in 1933 and for the first time in All-Star history the National League, with this 6-5 victory, now had a 18-17 series lead.

What does Willie Mays have in common with Frankie Frisch (1934 All-Star Game) and Lou Boudreau (1942 All-Star Game)? He became the third player to-date to lead off an All-Star Game with a home run - though his traveled approximately 415 feet.

Juan Marichal, who won the 1965 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award, pitched three innings and allowed only one hit to an impressive American League line-up that exploded to tie the game when he was removed from the lineup.
