1979 All-Star Game Box Score

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the box score to the 1979 Midsummer Classic which was played on July 17, 1979 at the Kingdome in Seattle, Washington.

"He (Nolan Ryan) is the perfect pitcher for this park. The ball flies out of here if you hit it, but the lights are bad in here so the ball looks fuzzy. It's hard to make contact. Nolan pitching in the Kingdome should be almost invisible." - Mike Schmidt

How has the game changed? During batting practice six-time All-Star Lou Brock said as he watched George Foster, Mike Schmidt & Dave Winfield, "Is there a normal bat in here? I can't even lift these."

Did you know that Lee Mazzilli was only the second (George Altman during the 1961 All-Star Game was the first) All-Star to hit a pinch hit home run during his first ever Midsummer Classic at-bat?

Carl Yastrzemski started at first base, but Red Sox fans know that he was part of the first All-Star outfield voted in by fans where all three were from the same team. Jim Rice & Fred Lynn were the other two and Yaz was moved due to an injured Rod Carew.
