This particular Midsummer Classic marked the end of a mini-tradition as it was the last of the two-game per season format which was started in 1959.

This was the fourth game played in Chicago, Illinois and the second played at Wrigley Field (the 1947 All-Star Game was the first in the "friendly confines").
