The 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 90th Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The game was hosted by the Cleveland Indians and was played at Progressive Field on July 9, 2019.
The host city was announced on January 27, 2017, by Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. It was the sixth All-Star Game in Cleveland, giving The Forest City the most All-Star Games in baseball history, breaking a four-way tie with the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and Cincinnati Reds, who have each hosted the Midsummer Classic five times.
The American League recorded its seventh consecutive win, a 4-3 victory over the National League, where only two home runs were hit during the Midsummer Classic– both solo shots. Research by Baseball Almanac.
"There's no better stage for D.C. to kind of show this new stadium we have, the area surrounding it and this awesome fan base that has grown with us than the All-Star Game. I can't think of a better city to showcase it than this one." - Washington Nationals First Draft Pick Ryan Zimmerman (26 Jul. 2017. Press Conference. 2019 All-Star Official Rosters | Bold = Fan-Elected Starter |
The 2019 All-Star Game official logo (pictured above / unveiled on August 7, 2018) featured a guitar bordered with baseball stitching, a combination designed to celebrate the city of Cleveland as both the capital of rock & roll, and the host of the Midsummer Classic.
Did you know that when the Home Run Derby occured, in Progressive Field, on July 8, 2019, the winner (Pete Alonso defeated Vladimir Guerrero Jr.) received $1 million dollars?
The 2019 All-Star rosters was made up of 32 players, 20 position players and 12 pitchers, with the Commissioner's Office, not the All-Star managers, making the final few selections for each roster!
