Autograph Of The Week: Bobby Thigpen

On September 3, 1990, Bobby Thigpen set a new major league record with his forty-seventh save in a 4-2 Chicago White Sox victory over the Kansas City Royals. Thigpen broke the record set by Dave Righetti of the New York Yankees in 1986 and went on to finish the season with fifty-seven saves!

"He's (Bobby Thigpen) as tough as nails. He has an attitude of 'give me the ball' and when the game's on the line, he's there." - White Sox Manager Jeff Torborg

The baseball card that Bobby Thigpen signed is a 1991 Score All-Star card issued as a tribute to his 1990 All-Star Game appearance!

What did he use to dominate hitters? Hardly nothing more than fastballs! His ninety-five mph fastball had great movement and kept the hitters off balance!

He was selected due to his record setting performance in 1990, but did you know he also became the first reliever to ever have a fifty plus save season?
