Autograph Of The Week : Nolan Ryan

On August 22, 1989, Nolan Ryan accomplished the impossible. In the fifth inning he threw a high fast ball past Rickey Henderson for career strikeout number five-thousand. He was and still is, the only pitcher in history to accomplish this feat and he finished his career with nearly six-thousand strikeouts!

"It (Nolan Ryan's five-thousandth strikeout pitch) gave me no chance. He just blew it by me." - Rickey Henderson

Nolan Ryan struck out more batters than any pitcher in history but did you know he also walked more than any other pitcher in major league history?

The "Ryan Express" threw an unthinkable seven no-hitters and another twelve one hitters!

In 1974, Nolan Ryan led the league in fewest hits per nine innings, most strikeouts per nine innings, most innings pitched, and had twenty-two wins on a last place team yet he did not win the Cy Young Award!
