Jack Graney Award

The Jack Graney Award is presented annually by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, an honour presented just twelve times in the twenty-four years since its inception, to a representative of the media who has made a significant contribution to the game of baseball to Canada through their life's work.

"When I made the jump into sports writing, my dad made me promise that I would not become like the guy in 1941 who left Ted Williams off an MVP ballot because he didn't like him. I still remember in 1995 when I was filling out my MVP ballot, and I moved a player from second to sixth because I thought he was a jerk. Then I remembered what my father told me and I moved him back to second. You should try to judge players by what they do, not the way they treat you." - Bob Elliott (Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, 12/17/2010, 'Bob Elliott captures Ball Hall's Jack Graney Award', Press Release)

The years on the Jack Graney Award chart above which are "missing"; 1989, 1992-1995, 1997-2000, 2006-2008, aren't missing at all - the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame is so selective that some years they chose not to honor anyone.

Did you know that the Jack Graney Award is named in honor of former Major League ballplayer Jack Graney, one of the first Canadian baseball players to enjoy success in the major leagues, and one of the first notable Canadian baseball broadcasters?

Do you agree with the choices made by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame? Who should they honor next? Share your opinions on Baseball Fever.
