Charlie Hough Good Guy Award

Members of the Miami chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America vote annually for the Charlie Hough Good Guy Award receipient. The award was named in honor of former Florida Marlins pitcher Charlie Hough who fostered a positive relationship with reporters.

"He (Charlie Hough) laughs in disbelief, and says, 'I'm still playing because I hurt my arm once and couldn't play.' Hough doesn't know how he injured his wing at Double A Albuquerque in '69, but he remembers the pain was so bad one night that he couldn't start his car with his right hand. 'I couldn't throw a ball 30 feet,' he says. 'I took a [cortisone] shot. I took a few more shots. But I never stopped pitching. I'd rather pitch hurt than let someone else pitch.'" - Tim Kurkjian in Sports Illustrated (04/12/1993, 'Florida's Aflutter', Source)

Charlie Hough Good Guy Award

Not one Florida Marlins player (or non-player) has ever won the Charlie Hough Good Guy Award more than once since its inception in 2005.

Do you know which players have also won the Florida Marlins Most Valuable Player Award and / or the Florida Marlins Rookie of the Year Award?

Do you agree with the choices made by the Miami Chapter of the Baseball Writers? What Marlins players are your favorite on and off the field during each of the seasons? Share the answers to these questions on Baseball Fever.
