Philadelphia Phillies Most Valuable Pitcher Award

Members of the Philadelphia chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America vote annually for the Philadelphia Phillies Most Valuable Pitcher Award receipient, also called the Steve Carlton Most Valuable Pitcher Award.

Similar in nature to a Cy Young Award, but simply team specific, the Steve Carlton Most Valuable Pitcher Award has been given since 2004 to the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher who consistently performed at the top of their game during the season.

"Definitely going to have to enjoy this moment because there's a lot of times you don't have everything go your way. To come away with a World Series ring is more important to me than an MVP." - Cole Hamels on ESPN.com (AP Wire, 10/30/2008, 'Hamels, who was 4-0 in postseason, wins World Series MVP', Source)

Philadelphia Phillies Most Valuable Pitcher Award

Philadelphia Phillies who have won the Steve Carlton Most Valuable Pitcher Award more than once are: Cole Hamels - the first & only pitcher to date.

In 2004 the Philadelphia area baseball writers also created the Mike Schmidt Most Valuable Player Award, the Dallas Green Special Achievement Award, and the Tug McGraw Good Guy Award.
