Cap Anson Baseball Card Image Gallery

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a small collection of Cap Anson baseball cards. Each Cap Anson baseball card is listed with its year, title & card number.

"The playing field (at Clyde Memorial Park) is major league, the lights better than many minor league parks, but the flavour is 19th century. At any time in Lanark, one expects Cap Anson or Wee Willie Keeler to stroll onto the field." - Atlanta Braves International Scouting Supervisor Bill Clark (April 17, 2004)

Cap Anson holds the major league record for errors by a first baseman, but everybody who reviews the book should remember he did not play with a glove.

Did you know that Cap Anson is credited by the National Baseball Hall of Fame as the "inventor" of the pitching rotation? During the 1880 season Cap alternated Larry Corcoran and Fred Goldsmith creating the first two-man rotation.

Quick: What do Cap Anson, Tony Gwynn, Stan Musial, Mel Ott & Willie Stargell all have in common besides the Hall of Fame? Give up? Each one spent twenty or more years with the same National League team.
