Trivia Tuesday

Each Tuesday, on our Twitter account, I usually post a trivia item or two. Yesterday, was no exception. I make some of them hard, some easy, and I include images like the one above. I hope you’ll follow our account there, it’s something you might enjoy, but even if you don’t, here is what you missed:

The first baseball trivia question I asked was, “Who was the last Major League pitcher to hit two triples in the same game?” The clues we gave were; 1) he was born on that date (March 20), and 2) he played for the Dodgers and Colt .45s. Take a guess, and see if you are correct. Answer.

While I was there on his online baseball card, I noticed the 1963 Topps baseball card he signed for us, wasn’t connected to a checklist, because it wasn’t in the Baseball Card Database. So I built out the set immediately, added the link, and also integrated it into several other player pages.

The second baseball trivia question I asked was, “Which one of the two Cincinnati Reds prospects on the baseball card pictured above ended up playing in three perfect games?” The answer.

The third baseball trivia question I asked was, “What pitcher, on the Hall of Fame plaque below, pitched two complete games on the same day, and won them both?” The answer.

One of the first baseball feats pages I ever created was a list of Pitchers With Complete Game Wins During a Doubleheader, so I went to that page, and made it better – adding a column for American League order, a National League order, and an overall Major League Baseball order, so you know exactly which one occurred in what order (who was first, second, third, from each team, etcetera).

Hope you enjoyed trivia Tuesday as well as some of the behind the scenes work being done here on Baseball Almanac.
