In the intro we gave dates of hitless innings prior to the game. After this perfect game, Cy Young threw six more hitless innings for a record twenty-three consecutive innings without a single hit.

Not a single ball was hit hard by the Athletics and Connie Mack himself commented that this was the most impressive game ever pitched.

In the ninth inning with two outs, Connie Mack sent Rube Waddell (the pitcher) to the plate. Cy Young popped him out on a fly ball to center. Was this right? Wrong? Correct for the times? Discuss these strategies on our baseball message boards.
