Box Score of No Hitter by A.J. Burnett

A.J. Burnett, making just his second start of the 2001 season, overcame nine bases on balls and threw the second no-hitter in the Major Leagues this season as the Florida Marlins defeated the San Diego Padres 3-0.

The 24-year-old Burnett battled serious control problems, but was literally helped by the Padres, whose batters repeatedly bailed him out by swinging early in the count.

"I threw maybe 10 curveballs all game. We were just working in and out all night. This is a great feeling. I never thought the second start back I'd throw a no-hitter." - A.J. Burnett
