The New York Mets traded Tom Seaver to the Cincinnati Reds one year prior to this no-hitter - June 15, 1977, for Doug Flynn, Steve Henderson, Dan Norman, and Pat Zachry!
Tom Seaver is a member of the 3,000 Strikeouts Club and holds several strikeout records, yet during his no-hitter he struck out three batters, had fifteen ground outs, and nine flyball outs!
The ninth innning began with Tom Seaver walking Jerry Mumphrey ending his string of nineteen consecutive retired batters. Lou Brock recorded the first out when he drove one deep into left field which was cleanly fielded by George Foster. Garry Templeton followed with a weak bouncer to Dave Concepcion for the force out at second and George Hendrick made it official when he hit a ground ball to Dan Driessen who tagged first for the final out!
