MIT / Massachusetts Institute of Technology Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every MIT alumnus who played baseball at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology AND made it to the Major League level.

"You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that if you're drafted in the 27th round with the 793rd overall pick, you're a long shot. Alumnus Jason Szuminki '01 is both—a rocket scientist and a long shot, though his long shot status is changing fast. That's because Jason Szuminski is on the cusp of accomplishing something no graduate of MIT has ever done before—making it to The Show." - MIT Alumni Association (Posted online prior to his Major League debut)

MIT MLB Player Alumnus

The Engineers baseball program started in 1948 and Jason Szuminski was their first and only player to make it to the Major League level.

When Szuminski was drafted in 2000 (27th Round / 793rd Pick Overall), he became only the second MIT player drafted by Major League Baseball, the other being Alan Dopfel '72, who was also a former Engineer pitcher.

Did you know that there was only one former Engineer who made it to the show? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
