The California State University, Chico baseball program started in 1935 and Clay Dalrymple was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

Why does the chart above say Chico State College? Because the Wildcats were known as: Chico State Normal School from 1889-1921, Chico State Teachers College from 1921-1935, Chico State College from 1935-1972, before becoming California State University, Chico in 1973.

Did you know that during the 1969 season Clay tried to carry two gloves on the field? Author Peter Morris in A Game of Inches wrote, "In 1969 catcher Clay Dalrymple attempted to keep a glove in his pocket that would supplement his mitt. His intention was to switch to the glove if he anticipated a play at the plate, but he was told (by Bowie Kuhn) that he could not use the extra glove."
