The Duke University baseball program started in 1889 and Wade Lefler was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the Duke University Hall of Fame.
"Mr. College Baseball" (known in the major leagues as Jack Coombs) was the head coach of Duke University (1929-1952) for twenty-four years and during that time won three NCAA District titles, four Southern Conference and seven North Carolina titles. He retired from coaching when he was seventy years old and finished with a 381-171-3 record.
