Hiram College Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Hiram College alumnus who played baseball at the Hiram College AND made it to the Major League level.

"Bill White, ex-National League first baseman, who did a dandy job as one of the announcers on the New York Yankees' radio-TV broadcasts last season, offers a logical reason when asked what induced him to turn to the spoke word for a living: "I got the idea," White said, "the year I hit .211 for the Phillies." - Sportswriter Si Burick in Baseball Digest (December 1971, 'Tidbits', Page 63)

The Hiram College baseball program started in 1920 and Bill White was their first — and only — player to make it to the Major League level.

On May 7, 1956, during the second inning, with no men on base, no outs, Ben Flowers on the mound, White became the first Terrier to hit a major league home run (plus that was a home run in his first at bat!).

Did you know that there was only one former Hiram player who made it to the show? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
