Illinois State University Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Illinois State University alumnus who played baseball at the Illinois State University AND made it to the Major League level.

"Our kids (Jeremy Accardo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs) played extremely hard this weekend. We didn't make the routine plays today that we needed to get the win. Our pitchers pitched extremely well all weekend long, and I think Indiana State is the best team in the league, and for us to play as well as we did this weekend against them speaks highly for our ballclub." - Illinois State Head Coach Jim Brownlee

Illinois State University M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Illinois State University baseball program started in 1890 and Buzz Capra was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the Illinois State University Hall of Fame.

On September 26, 1979, pinch hitter Dave Bergman went deep in the eighth inning, with one out, bases were empty, Phil Niekro was on the mound, and Bergman became the first former Redbird to hit a major league home run.

Did you know that there are eleven former Illinois State University players and two former non-players who made it to the show? Send corrections to Baseball Almanac.
