Lamar University's baseball program started in 1952 and Dave Smith was their first player to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the Lamar University Hall of Fame.

Jim Gilligan, who just completed his 27th season as the baseball coach at Lamar University, was enshrined in the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2004 induction class-Houston Astros Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell; Kenny Rogers of the Texas Rangers; Houston Astros television announcer Bill Brown; Rube Foster (deceased), who was an early star pitcher of the Negro Baseball League; and Debs Garms, who was a Major League Baseball player from the late 1930s and early 1940s era were the other inductees.
