"Persistent. It's the perfect word to sum up Brian Schmack. There aren't many people who would have gone to the lengths Schmack has to continue his baseball career." - Sportswriter Marty Maciaszek in The Daily Herald (08/29/2003, 'Schmack's relentless pursuit leads to big league career', Source)

The Northern Illinois University baseball program started in 1872 and Davy Jones was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

When Fritz Peterson made his Major League debut he became the first Huskie pitcher to make it to the majors and when he appeared in the 1970 All-Star Game he was the first and only one to appear in a Midsummer Classic.

Did you know that there are eight former Northern Illinois University players who made it to the show? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
