Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"What he's (Roy Halladay) feeling, I've lived. You feel like you're on your own (when trying to win a Cy Young Award). You feel like it's you against everybody, even your own team. You feel like you can't take a day off or have an off day because you're not allowed to — and in my case, I wouldn't allow myself to. You feel like you've got to complete every game, every time." - Stieb, Dave. SIUC Hall of Fame Pitcher. Toronto Sun. 4 September 2003.

The Southern Illinois University baseball program started in 1946. Ray Rippelmeyer was the first former Saluki to make it to the Major League level. Names that appear on the chart above in bold print are in the Southern Illinois University Hall of Fame.

The Salukis play their home games at Abe Martin Field — a natural grass paradise set into the countryside and named on April 30, 1972 in honor of Glenn "Abe" Martin, who retired in 1971 after thirty-three years of service, including nineteen as head baseball coach.
