The University of Iowa baseball program started in 1890 and Maury Kent was their first player to make it to the Major League level.
The University of Iowa chose its school colors in 1887 when fifty seniors met on the steps of the Old Capitol. When all was said and done, their colors became Old Gold, the color of Iowa's corn fields - and Black, the color of the soil itself.
