University of Iowa Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every University of Iowa alumnus who played baseball at the University of Iowa AND made it to the Major League level.

"This is very special, a very special day. One is the privilege of having been in a Texas Ranger uniform and having pride in that before there was probably reason to have pride in it. It's an honor to be in the first class (of Rangers inducted into a team Hall of Fame." - Jim Sundberg on MLB.com (July 30, 2003)

University of Iowa M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The University of Iowa baseball program started in 1890 and Gus Thompson was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

The University of Iowa chose its school colors in 1887 when fifty (50) seniors met on the steps of the Old Capitol. When all was said and done, their colors became Old Gold, the color of Iowa's corn fields - and Black, the color of the soil itself.

Did you know that there are twenty-three former Hawkeye players who made it to "the show"? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
