University of North Florida Baseball Players Who Made it to the Major Leagues

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every University of North Florida alumnus who played baseball at the University of North Florida AND made it to the Major League level.

"I think when I was rookie, my second start out was against (Ken) Griffey, Jr. and my first start out was against Luis Gonzalez and (Steve) Finley and those guys. I think you try to be a little bit better than you need to instead of just trying to execute pitches that the catcher puts down. After the first couple times that you face 'superstars' and you get them out by throwing a good pitch, you realize that it's no different. If you make a mistake, you're not going to get that ball back, it's definitely going to be hit hard somewhere. I think that's the biggest thing, just having a plan of attack, especially for the guys that you don't want to beat you. - Brian Tollberg on PatriotsBaseball.com (Mike Ashmore, 06/10/2005)

University of North Florida M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The University of North Florida baseball program started in 1988 and Sid Roberson was their first player to make it to the Major League level. The school's brief history / experience — yet high number of major league players is truly noteworthy.

The 2005 Ospreys nearly won their first ever Division II National Championship in 2005, falling 12-9 to the Florida Southern Mocs. In 2006 the University of North Florida will make the jump to Division I and head coach Dusty Rhodes commented after the game, "They battled all the way to the end. This is a great team and I'm devastated for them, but they proved how good they were all season and by getting into this game. It was a game that we could have won, but losing it to a good Florida Southern team doesn't change how good this team is. We're taking the greatest UNF baseball team to Division I."

Did you know that there are six (6) former University of North Florida Osprey players who made it to "the show"? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
