Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive chart of every Virginia Military Institute alumnus who played baseball at the Virginia Military Institute AND made it to the Major League level.

"I kind of came in (to the Syracuse Skychiefs) with a fresh attitude. Sometimes as a player you try to get it all back in one game. I just wanted to go out there and have some fun. It turned out to be a real fun night." - Ryan Glynn in The Post Standard (Paul Shepherd, June 27, 2004)

Virginia Military Institute M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Virginia Military Institute baseball program started in 1866 and Ryan Glynn was their first — and only — player to make it to the Major League level.

When Ryan Glynn made his major league debut on May 16, 1999, he also gave up his first major league home run. The hitter who out dueled him Baltimore Orioles catcher Charles Johnson (who also went deep that day against Mike Munoz).

The school nickname "Keydets" is derived from a southern drawl pronunciation of the word "cadet." The kangaroo serves as the school mascot and is one of only four U.S. colleges that uses the marsupial to represent its sports teams.
