"We just had to get a run in there somewhere. It put us on top and gave us a chance to win. It was a nailbiter. Wins are hard to get late in the season." - Matt Mieske in USA Today (September 9, 2000)

Western Michigan University M.L.B. Player Alumnus

The Western Michigan University baseball program started in 1912 and Ernie Koob was their first player to make it to the Major League level.

Dutch Deitz played at Western State Teachers College on a baseball scholarship and after he left the major leagues he served as the Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Beaumont Texas and later the Personnel Director for the city.

Did you know that there are thirty-two former Western Michigan players who made it to "the show"? Send corrections or updates to Baseball Almanac.
