League by League Totals for At-Bats

An at-bat is an officially recognized statistic that counts the number of times a batter steps into the batter's box. It does not include times when a batter reaches first base by a bases on balls (walks), being hit by a pitch, any sacrifices, or catcher interference. Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a year-by-year leaderboard in Major League at-bats for every league since 1901.

Did you know that Pete Rose holds the Major League record for most at bats with a career total of fourteen-thousand fifty-three (14,053)?

In 1980 seven-hundred five at-bats of the American League belonged to Willie Wilson who holds the record for most at-bats by one player during a single season.

Eighteen players have had eight at-bats during a nine-inning game; however, the last player to accomplish this feat was Barry McCormick on June 29, 1897.
