Single Season Leaders for Hit By Pitch in the National League

These are the National League ballplayers that were there — really there. So close in fact that they were hit by the pitch, either intentionally or unintentionally by the opposing team's pitcher(s).

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present the top one-hundred (100) single season National League leaders for hit by pitch. Note: A bold faced entry denotes that the player was active during the previous Major League season.

"That's Don Baylor, who started his career as a Baltimore Oriole and set the major league record for being hit by a pitch 267 times," the guide told a gaggle of fans. Baylor laughed. "They won’t be able to say that much longer," he said. "Craig Biggio is getting close." - Sportswriter Larry LaRue in The News Tribune (May 27, 2005)

Current Through End of 2007 Regular Season

Did you know that Hughie Jennings, who was drilled fifty-one (51) times in 1896, and Ron Hunt, who was drilled fifty (50) times in 1971, are the only two (2) players in Major League history to be hit by a pitch more than forty-nine times in a season?

The code to write the single season hit by pitch league splits was developed in 2005, launched during 2006 and made possible by your support — please continue helping us create these kinds of pages by supporting our site.

The American League single season record for hit by pitch was set in 1986 by Don Baylor of the Boston Red Sox. The National League single season record for hit by pitch is on this page. Is either the Career Leader for Hit by Pitch?
