Baseball and Basketball Players

Many athletes played more than one sport in high school and college, but then chose one over the other when it came time to choosing a career path. They worked hard at that sport and tried to make it a career. Many don’t make it and must put their mind to something else. But then there are the ones who are able to succeed and run with the career that they are able to have. It takes hard work and determination to go pro and a little bit of luck to make it to the big leagues. That’s why so many athletes are only able to play one sport professionally.

So if you think that playing one pro sport would be difficult, try wrapping your mind around playing two! Below you will find a complete list of the players who were able to make it to the show in both the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Major League Baseball (MLB).

"I want to play baseball. It's my father's dream that I become a baseball player." - Michael Jordan on ESPN.com (ESPN, Michael Jordan Biography, 'Professional Baseball 1994-1995', Source)

Did you know that Baseball Hall of Famers Lou Brock, Bob Gibson and Fergie Jenkins each played for the Harlem Globetrotters?

Not one NBA player has ever been elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame as a player, but there has been one former baseball player who has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame: Dave DeBusschere.

While at Duke University, Dick Groat won the U.P.I. National Player of the Year award after averaging more than twenty-five points per game. Groat was the fourth round draft choice of the Ft. Wayne (now Detroit) Pistons and averaged a very respectable twelve points per game during his only season.
