Hitting Advice

In 1994, Ted Williams opened his Hitters Hall of Fame in Hernando, Florida. He celebrated the event by inviting hundreds of former ballplayers and one current player — Tony Gwynn.

Williams was VERY well versed in the art of hitting, offering understandable hitting advice, and had a set of "cardinal rules" which he called his common hitting advice.

"If there was ever a man born to be a hitter it was me." - Ted Williams

# Hitting Advice
1. Hit only strikes.
2. Never swing at a ball you're fooled on or have trouble hitting.
3. After two strikes, concede the long ball to the pitcher; shorten up on the bat and try to put the head of the bat on the ball.

Ted Williams career statistics speak for themselves - .344 batting average, 1,798 runs scored, 521 homers, 2,019 walks and slugging average of .619.

Ted Williams could have sat out the final game in 1941 and finish with a .400 batting average, but he chose to play in a doubleheader and went 4-for-5 in game one and 2-for-3 in game two raising his batting average to .406.

Did you know that Ted Williams hit a home run in the last at-bat of his career? Do you know which other players have accomplished that unique feat?
