Wheaties Baseball Boxes

Wheaties began the practice of including pictures of athletes on their cereal boxes beside their slogan, "The Breakfast of Champions." Originally athletes were depicted on the sides or back of the cereal box, though in 1958 Wheaties began placing the pictures on the front of the box.

The tradition has included hundreds of athletes from many different sports and a full list of every known baseball player to appear on a box of Wheaties, by Baseball Almanac. This should be considered a work in progress and does include every known instance where a baseball team, baseball player or person from the field of baseball appeared on a box of Wheaties.

"I believe any man who wants to go places in any sport has to keep in good physical shape. I always watch my eating pretty closely and make it a point to put away a good breakfast in the morning. But I want my food to taste good, too. And there's nothing better than a big bowl of Wheaties with plenty of milk or cream and sugar. That's a 'Breakfast of Champions' you want to try. You'll be glad you did. Because Wheaties sure taste great!" - Lou Gehrig (Magazine Ad / Newspaper Ad / Widely Distributed, 1935)

Wheaties Baseball Boxes

In 1934 — the year it all began — Wheaties had three box tops with baseball players on them: Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, and a fictional player named Jack Armstrong.

Did you know that names which are listed on the chart above in bold print are all members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame?

You could assist us with this particular project by sending over images of boxes you own, providing additional details for the boxes we have located or names of players we missed.
