On August 22, 1888, the Indianapolis Hoosiers played a "night game" at dusk with the use of natural-gas lights. On September 6, 1888, they made some changes to the lights, but were still unable to play effectively and dropped the idea.

Did you know that Dummy Hoy is the only Major League outfielder to throw out three runners tagging up from third in one game? He accomplished that unique feat versus the Hoosiers on May 19, 1888.
