Ever wonder who lost the most games the year you were born? How about pitchers from you favorite team — have they ever led the league in games lost? Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a year-by-year leaderboard in Major League games lost for every season since 1876 Note: A bold faced entry denotes that the player was active during the previous Major League season.

Did you know that Cy Young, who has won more games than any other pitcher, also holds the Major League record for career losses with three-hundred sixteen (316)?

The single season record for games lost (click the link to see who) does not appear on this page as it occurred during the 1883 season. Do you know who it was?

Pedro Ramos (1958 through 1961) and Phil Niekro (1977 through 1980) hold the record for consecutive seasons leading the league in losses.
