"Talk about being in the zone, Doug Fister was really in the zone on Thursday. The Detroit pitcher set an American League record with nine consecutive strikeouts in the Tigers' 5-4 win over Kansas City, but wasn't even aware of it until the fans at Tiger Stadium gave him a standing ovation. He even waved off his own first baseman, Prince Fielder, who wanted him to pause and take in the moment. 'Honestly, I had no idea,' Fister told the Associated Press. ' Prince was yelling at me to step off during the inning, and I kind of looked at him. Normally, he'll do that, to slow me down, if I'm getting too quick .... I thought that was kind of what he was doing there. He just said, ''Hey, step off.''
