"He (Jake Arrieta) has that kind of stuff nightly. It's really crazy. The ball looks like a whiffle ball from the side. You can see the break on the slider and the curveball. Right now he’s pitching at a different level." - Chicago Cubs Manager Joe Maddon in The New York Daily News (The Associated Press, 08/31/2015, 'Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta throws no-hitter against Dodgers ', Source)

Jake Arrieta Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Jake Arrieta finished the 2015 season with 22 wins, a 1.77 ERA and 236 strikeouts. The last Chicago Cubs pitcher with 20-or-more wins and an ERA below 2.00, was hall of famer Grover Alexander, who had 27 wins, a 1.91 ERA and "only" 173 strikeouts in 1920 - ninety five years earlier.
Did you know that Jake Arrieta was the first Chicago Cubs pitcher to have both a Cy Young Award and no-hitter (August 30, 2015) on his curriculum vitae (résumé)? The 2015 Cy Young winner was the fifth Cubbie to win the Award, joining four additional right-handers (Fergie Jenkins, Bruce Sutter, Rick Sutcliffe, Greg Maddux), none of which have a no-no in Chicago.
Jake Arrieta No-Hitter (Box Score) | The Des Moines Register | August 31, 2015 | Page 3C
On October 7, 2015, Jake Arrieta became the first pitcher in baseball history to throw a postseason shutout while striking out ten-or-more batters without issuing a single walk. Arrieta mowed down eleven batters that history making day, tying the Chicago Cubs record for strikeouts in a postseason game, set originally by Orval Overall in the 1908 World Series (Game 5), then tied by Kerry Wood in the 2003 Division Series (Game 1).
