Did you know that when Rich, his nickname, made his big league debut on September 6, 1995, he became the first Xaverian High School position player to reach the majors? Do you know what pitcher preceded Aurilia? [Answer]

Did you know that Rich Aurilia was the first San Francisco Giants shortstop to win a Silver Slugger Award? From 1999 through 2001, Aurilia actually led all National League shortstops in home runs hit (three consecutive years). That final year (2001, see picture below), Rich also had his only 200-hit season, finishing with a .324 batting average — tops amongst all shortstops in the senior circuit (11th Overall / Top 25) earning him a Silver Slugger Award.
Did you know if we only look at SAN FRANCISCO Giants (excluding their time in New York), Aurilia hung up his cleats with 1,226 hits in The City by the Bay, sixth most in history, behind Willie Mays (2,284 hits in SF), Willie McCovey (1,974 hits in SF), Barry Bonds (1,951 hits in SF), Orlando Cepeda (1,286 hits in SF) and Will Clark (1,278 hits in SF).

Rich Aurilia hit 186 home runs in his career, off 147 different pitchers, in 33 different parks. When Aurilia went deep, the bases were empty 111 times, a single runner was on base 53 times, two runners were on base 19 times, and the bases were loaded three times. One of those grand slams was truly historic:
Rich Aurilia Grand Slam
On June 14, 1997, the (National League) Giants were playing the (American League) Angels in Anaheim Stadium. The Giants designated hitter, Glenallen Hill, was on first, catcher Damon Berryhill stood on second, and center fielder Darryl Hamilton stood ninety-feet away from home plate.
Rich Aurilia, with six career home runs under his big league belt, came to the plate with two outs in the top of the second inning, score was tied 0-0, and Allen Watson was on mound. Aurilia forced the big lefty, who was also a teammate a year earlier, to throw seven pitches, getting to a 2-2 count, then Rich smacked a hard liner down the left field line for his first career grand slam.
The bases loaded home run was more than just career home run number seven, it was also the first-ever grand-slam hit during an interleague game.

During the 2002 World Series run, Rich Aurilia established a post season mark for shortstops by collecting a record high seventeen RBI, hitting .265, and crushing six home runs (across 17 postseason games).
