Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"Casey Stengel is playing it cautious — considering the Yankees' rapid rise in the American League standings — but at least he's willing to concede that Hector Lopez and Jim Bronstad 'are making it.' Bronstad is a 23-year-old right hander brought up at the same time that the Yankees made their deal for Lopez and pitcher Ralph Terry with the Athletics. He now has pitched 2 1-3 innings in relief without yielding a run and Stengel is toying with the idea of starting him." - Down, Fred. Galesburg Register Staff Writer. Hector Lopez, Jim Bronstad Give Yankees a Big Lift. 11 June 1959. Page 10.
