Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"We all have bad days in the baseball field. To be able to run out there and chase down the ball and being able to compete, you've got to be happy. Some say the grind of the season will break you down mentally. But the way I look at it is I get a chance to run around for three hours and play baseball. I get a chance to go in my little kid's world and have fun. The challenge of it makes it fun, and by me getting better every year that makes it more fun." - Cameron, Mike. Baseball Digest. July 2002.

Michael Terrance Cameron was a Major League Baseball player with the Chicago White Sox (1995-1998), Cincinnati Reds (1999), Seattle Mariners (2000-2003), New York Mets (2004-2005), San Diego Padres (2006-2007), Milwaukee Brewers (2008-2009), Boston Red Sox (2010-2011), and Florida Marlins (2011). Mike, his nickname, had a sixteen year career, taking the field in eight different uniforms, and when Cameron homered twice in a game on July 27, 2011, he became the first player in baseball history with at least one multi-homer game with eight separate Major League Baseball teams!

On May 2, 2002, Mike Cameron hit four home runs in the same game, only the fourth such game in American League history (joined Lou Gehrig, Pat Seerey and Rocky Colavito), the first four homer game by a player from the Seattle Mariners.

During that historic game, Mike hit two of his four home runs in the first inning. Teammate Bret Boone also hit two home runs in the first inning — the first time in baseball history where two teammates each homered twice in the same inning!

In 2002, Mike Cameron struck out an American League leading 176 times, setting a new Seattle Mariners (still standing) record for most strikeouts in a single season. Do you know whose record he broke? It was set in 1997, by an All-Star (2006) right fielder who "only" struck out 175 times. [Answer]

In 2020, Mike Cameron called Ryan Braun and said, "Hey, remember that kid who was 12 years old hitting in the cage? Well, you're going to play against him today." A few days earlier, Mike "was about knocked out on the couch" when his son FaceTimed him and "was smiling from ear to ear.” Daz Cameron explained why when he said, "I'm going to the big leagues, Dad!" — the two-hundred forty-seventh Father & Son to play Major League Baseball!

Mike "Cammy" Cameron won two Gold Gloves in the American League (2001 & 2003) then one Gold Glove in the National League (2006), a unique fielding feat which you can research yourself (along with other baseball trivia) by visiting each baseball award.
