Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"I was having a bad (1993 World) Series at the plate. Just awful. All I was looking for was a pitch to put into to play. Get a good look at it and take an ugly swing. I never, ever thought that ball I hit would leave the park. It was a moment and a swing that will be with me forever." - Joe Carter

Joe Carter is probably most famous for his walk-off home run to win the 1993 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays, but he was also a first round draft pick in 1981 (second overall), the first 30/30 Club member in Cleveland Indians franchise history (1987) and the first Blue Jays player to hit two home runs in the same inning (October 3, 1993).

When Joe Carter hung up his playing cleats in 1998, he had ten seasons with 100-or-more RBIs, a feat matched - at that time - by exactly eight players, all of them hall of famers; Willie Mays (10x), Stan Musial (10x), Goose Goslin (11x), Hank Aaron (11x), Al Simmons (12x), Jimmie Foxx (13x), Lou Gehrig (13x), and Babe Ruth (13x).
