"I was with the Red Sox organization in the early 1950s, and Johnny Pesky - everybody called him Needle Nose - was an infielder with the club. I was tall and pretty lanky in those days and had sort of a sidearm motion. He saw me pitch and he said that I pitched like one of his great old teammates, Tex Hughson. He began calling me Tex and it stuck." - Tex Clevenger in Yankees: Where Have You Gone? (Maury Allen, Sports Publishing LLC, 02/01/2004, Tex Clevenger, Page 216)
