Did you know that somewhere around the 1940's, Hap opened a bar and gambling hall in Jamestown, California and named it "The Smoke" after himself? The business endured, even after the original building burned to the ground. Fortunately he had a girlfriend (she later became his wife) who owned most of the buildings on Main Street, and he moved his bar next door to the old site. After Hap passed on, the business remained as a bar and Chinese Food restaurant. It was converted to a Mexican restaurent in the early 1980's and given a makeover with a marble top bar and tables. The business was relocated again in 1989 to the old Odd Fellows Building across Main Street, where it is still open under the same name.
