Bo Diaz Ultimate Grand Slam
Did you know that Bo Diaz, on April 13, 1983, stepped up to the plate in Veterans Stadium, his Phillies were trailing the New York Mets 6-9, there were two out, the bases were loaded, and movie-magic happened — Diaz hit an incredibly rare ultimate grand slam?
Did you know that Bo Diaz is the only catcher in baseball history to throw out the same baserunner (Robby Thompson) four times in the same game? On June 27, 1986, in a twelve-inning game, Diaz became the first - and through today, the only - catcher to record four successful caught stealing attempts in an extra inning game! [Caught Stealing Records]
On November 23, 1990, Bo Diaz tragically died when he climbed to his roof on a windy afternoon and attempted to adjust his spotty satellite signal. The dish fell on Diaz, crushing his neck and skull against the base of the dish.
