Author Stephen Martini (The Chattanooga Lookouts & 100 Seasons of Scenic City Baseball) wrote that Joe Engel was a pitcher for only a few years, but was much better known for his 35 years leading the minor league Chattanooga Lookouts — becoming one of the most legendary names in zany promotions in the nation. Engel once traded his shortstop to Charlotte for a 25-pound turkey then said, "I still think I got the worst of that deal. That was a mighty tough turkey."
