Pedro Garcia was born on Monday, April 17, 1950, in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Garcia was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 6, 1973, with the Milwaukee Brewers. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Pedro Garcia baseball stats page.
"Pistol Pete Garcia doesn't care what bat he uses - they all get the same results. He's used clubs weighing 34 ounces, and 36 ounces this year - and he's hit home runs - 'taters' in his parlance - with all of them. 'I just go out there and get a bat and swing,' says the free-spirited 23-year old rookie second baseman of the Milwaukee Brewers. 'There's no way you can get on unless you swing - no way.' Garcia has been the spark plug of the resurgent Brewers through the early part of the campaign and his play - both at the plate and afield - has won him over to the Milwaukee fans." - The Waukesha Daily Freeman (04/26/1973, 'Garcia Hitting More Taters Than Expected', Page 14)

Pedro Garcia Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Pedro Garcia, in his first big league season (1973), led the American League (along with Sal Bando) in doubles, with thirty-two [Year by Year Leaders for Doubles]. The duo set an American League record for Fewest Doubles By The League Leader, a mark that remains through today.
That same season (1973), Pedro Garcia turned 111 double plays at second base, the first Milwaukee Brewers second baseman with 100-or-more double plays at second. Garcia held the team record until Jim Gantner successfully turned 128 double plays in 1983, who was surpassed by current team record holder Fernando Vina, who turned 135 double plays at second in 1998.
On April 7, 1977, Pedro Garcia was the Toronto Blue Jays opening day starting second baseman during their first regular season game - ever.
Toronto Blue Jays First Game | April 7, 1977 | Exhibition Stadium
Pedro Garcia, during the historic game mentioned above, became the first Blue Jay to wear #38, the first to hit a (non-bunt) single (bottom of the second inning, Ken Brett pitching), and the first to hit a double (bottom of the fourth inning, Ken Brett pitching).
How are Rickie Weeks and Pedro Garcia related? The two second baggers are the only former Milwaukee Brewers in the "20 Errors Club", each having committed more than 20 errors in a single season at second. Even more unique (or should we say unbelievable), the duo each did it twice, and each did it in consecutive seasons! Garcia committed a franchise record 27 errors in 1973, then 23 errors in 1974. Weeks committed 21 errors in 2005, then 22 errors in 2006.
